Salim Akhtar- Urdu is a Kohinoor among Indian

Salim Akhtar
“Urdu is a Kohinoor among Indian languages”
Khushwant Singh
---------
“Urdu is the linguistic Taj Mahal of India”
Prof. Gopi Chand Narang

In the context of above quotations of Khushwant Singh & Prof Narang, it can be rightly claimed that Urdu does not belong to any specific region or to any specific religion. It came to existence by the natives of Delhi speaking local dialects coming continuously in contact with Moghul army's camps during moghul rules. The word Urdu means'Army Camp’.It is purely an Indian language and will continue to survive so long as India remains a multicultural country.Urdu’s role in India’s freedom struggle was tremendous and unimaginable. During the period of freedom movement,it gave us the slogan“Inquilab Zindabad” and contributed to our famous Ganga-Jamuni tehzeeb or composite culture.
In words of Prof.Rasheed Ahmed Siddqui, there are three major contributions of the Mughal era to Indian civilization namely---the Taj Mahal,Urdu and Ghalib. A common spirit of aesthetic excellence and elegance runs through all the three.Although every language is beautiful in its own way, Urdu’s sophistication and charm captivate the mind of everyone in general.
Today,Urdu language is the soul of the Bollywood film industry and Television serials. It is rampantly used as the basic language for ghazals, film lyrics and dialogues in plays. Above all Urdu couplets are quoted by everyone including politicians in public as well as in the parliament, but it is a matter of regret that none is prepared to champion it and give its due.

“Galat hai jo samjhta hai ise aghyar ki boli
ye hai ekhlas ki tarze takallum pyar ki boli” ( Prof Jagannath Azad.)

“Mein Urdu hoon mera charcha hai Mashriq aur Maghtrib mein
Mere har lafz mein paigam hai amn -o- Mohabbat ka”
